After nearly two decades in development, another helmer has signed on for the seafaring horror tale “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” which has now been setup at Amblin Entertainment.
Andre Ovredal (“Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark”) is in negotiations to helm the project which Bradley Fischer, Mike Medavoy and Arnold Messer.
Bragi Schut (“Season of the Witch”) penned the original script which is inspired by a section of Bram Stoker’s novel “Dracula” in which a cargo ship named the Demeter transports Dracula’s coffin from Transylvania to London.
The vampire picks off the crew one-by-one along the way until the ship washes up ashore in England with one raving-mad survivor. This will center its story around that journey.
Overdal is the latest name attached to the project following the departures of previously linked helmers like Robert Schwentke, Marcus Nispel and David Slade while actors like Ben Kingsley and Noomi Rapace have been attached.
He will likely shoot the film after he helms the Stephen King adaptation “The Long Walk” at New Line.
