Former “True Blood” and “Legends” actress Kelly Overton has been cast in the title role in Syfy’s upcoming series “Vanessa Helsing”. Production on a thirteen episode first season begins next week ahead of a Fall launch.
The series reinterprets Bram Stoker’s Dracula-hunting character Abraham van Helsing as a woman and the next in a line of warriors who must lead mankind against a world controlled by vampires.
Resurrected five years in the future, Vanessa learns vampires have taken over the world and that she possesses unique power over them – effectively serving as humanity’s last hope to lead an offensive to take back what has been lost.
Also onboard is “Mad Men” actor Paul Johansson as a vampire turned before the Rising and now their patient and calculating leader. He joined by “Hell on Wheels” regulars Jonathan Scarfe as a career Marine with unwavering devotion and Christopher Heyerdahl as a survivor of the vampire Rising, along with David Cubitt (“Ray Donovan”) as another survivor and Tim Guinee (“The Good Wife”) as a vampire foot soldier.
