The Toronto Film Festival has announced that “Starred Up” and “Hell or High Water” director David Mackenzie’s period drama “Outlaw King,” starring Chris Pine as Scottish hero Robert the Bruce, will serve as the Opening Night Gala Presentation for the fest on September 6th.
In addition, the newly christened “Jeremiah Terminator LeRoy” will close this year’s Festival. Justin Kelly helms the film about one of the most famous literary gambits in American history and adapted from Savannah Knoop’s memoir “Girl Boy Girl”.
Laura Dern plays author Laura Albert who writes under a fictionalized persona of a young queer man named JT LeRoy. When JT becomes a literary darling, she comes up with a way to preserve her anonymity – her boyfriend’s androgynous sister Savannah (Kristen Stewart) will play JT at public functions. Diane Kruger, Jim Sturgess, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Courtney Love, James Jagger, and Dave Brown co-star in the film.
