Starz has announced that the third season of its time travel period drama “Outlander” is slated to premiere in September. That makes the gap between seasons two and three approximately fourteen months.
In the new season, which will run thirteen episodes, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) are now separated by continents and centuries, but must find their way back to each other. The story is based on “Voyager,” the third book in Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” novel series.
The third season began production in September last year and will continue on through until June with some of the shoot taking place in Cape Town, South Africa which will stand in for Jamaica.
Cape Town has been the home for fellow Starz series “Black Sails” for four years – standing in for the Bahamas in that show, so it’s not much of a stretch in this case.
Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Matthew B. Roberts, Toni Graphia, Anne Kenney and Andy Harries serve as executive producers.
