O’Toole, Poulter, Reynor Join Bigelow’s Riots Film

Ben O’Toole (“The Water Diviner”), Will Poulter (“The Revenant”) and Jack Reynor (“Macbeth”) are all set to join the previously attached John Boyega (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) in the untitled Detroit riots movie setup at Annapurna Pictures.

“Zero Dark Thirty” helmer Kathryn Bigelow directs the project which is described as a crime drama set against the backdrop of Detroit’s devastating riots that took place over five summer days in 1967 and tackled the systemic racism in urban Detroit.

Bigelow’s go to scribe Mark Boal penned the script for the film which has no distributor currently attached. Megan Ellison, Matthew Budman, and Colin Wilson are producing.

The filmmakers are hoping for a 2017 release to tie in with the 50th anniversary of the riots.
