Other Woman Scores PG-13 On Appeal

In an upcoming summer movie season packed with comedy’s wearing their R rating with pride, one film has been trying to buck the trend… and it has succeeded.

A few weeks shy of release, 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Cameron Diaz comedy “The Other Woman” has won its appeal with the MPAA which has seen its R rating loosened to the tamer PG-13.

The story follows three women (Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton) who discover the truth about their significant other – they’re all the same man (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).

While female-oriented comedies have been served well with an R-rating lately (eg. “Bridesmaids,” “The Heat”), Fox is said to be specifically targeting younger woman and teens with this film. The R rating was given for “sexual references,” some of which have been trimmed to score this appeal.

The new rating is now for “mature thematic material, sexual references, and language”.
