Oscar-Winner Whitaker Becomes A Watchman

Forest Whitaker is in final negotiations to reteam with Fox Searchlight for “The Night Watchman,” his first project since he won the Oscar a few weeks back for “The Last King of Scotland.”

Based on an original idea by “L.A .Confidential” author James Ellroy, “Night” centers on a veteran member (Keanu Reeves) of an elite group of LAPD cops called Ad/Vice.

The group have used ruthless tactics to become a highly effective force in solving murders and battling gang violence and drugs. Reeves’ character turns to alcohol after the death of his wife and begins to question if they’ve been doing the right thing.

He soon is forced to go up against his longtime mentor (Whitaker) when he is implicated in the execution of a fellow officer.

David Ayer (“Harsh Times”) will helm the project and shooting begins May 21st. Whitaker will next be seen in “Vantage Point” and “Where the Wild Things Are”, whilst already is locked in to film a role in the Kate Beckinsale-led “Winged Creatures.”
