Oscar Isaac Joins Garland’s “Annihilation”

Acclaimed actor Oscar Isaac is set to re-team with his “Ex Machina” writer/director Alex Garland for “Annihilation,” the film adaptation of the first book in Jeff VanderMeer’s ‘Southern Reach’ trilogy.

Tracking Board reported the news of his casting, the first male star cast in the film about four female scientists – a biologist, an anthropologist, a psychologist, and a surveyor – who set out on an expedition into ‘Area X,’ the twelfth such expedition into the mysterious, uninhabited and abandoned area that nature has begun to reclaim.

Previous expeditions have been disastrous – fraught with disappearances, suicides, aggressive cancers, and mental trauma. Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez and Tessa Thompson star while Scott Rudin will produce.
