Open Road Acquires Meyer’s “The Host”

They made their first deal with “The Killer Elite”, now young distribution company Open Road has scored its second major acquisition – the Andrew Niccol-directed film adaptation of “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer’s novel “The Host” reports Deadline.

Meyer’s novel is a love story set in the near future on Earth, which has been assimilated by an alien species of benevolent parasites that call themselves “Souls.” One such soul, the Wanderer, is fused with a dying human named Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan), in an attempt to locate the last pocket of surviving humans on Earth.

Open Road beat out at least three other distributors for the rights and the deal includes big financial commitments and deals for key people involved.
