Long-running ABC fairy tale series “Once Upon a Time” will end its run after seven seasons. In its freshman season, ‘Time’ was the No. 1 new drama averaging 11.8 million total viewers and a 4.1 in the demo – big enough to lead to a short-lived spin-off its third season.
For its first four seasons, it ranked among the top 20 TV shows on broadcast in the key demo, but dropped in subsequent years. Many of the cast chose not to return when their contracts were up at the end of the sixth season.
The recent seventh season served as a mini-reboot with the few remaining actors and new ones brought in to try and extend the show’s life. Also moved to a Friday timeslot, the show has tanked with a ratings average of 3.8 million and a 1.1 and so the series will wrap up.
