“Carlos” and “Personal Shopper” director Olivier Assayas has signed on to helm the spy thriller “Wasp Network”.
An adaptation of Fernando Morais’ novel “The Last Soldiers Of The Cold War” and set throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the story deals with violent anti-Castro groups based in Florida who carried out hundreds of military attacks on Cuba.
The Cuban government struck back with the Wasp Network – a dozen men and two women – who were sent to infiltrate those organizations. They were eventually unmasked and prosecuted by U.S. authorities.
Assayas recently collaborated with Roman Polanski on “Based On A True Story” due out later this year, and is still developing the crime film “Idol’s Eye”.
