Pom Klementieff, the half-Korean French actress best known for her role in the “Oldboy” remake, has scored a key role in James Gunn’s upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” at Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios.
Details of Klementieff’s character have not been revealed, but the actress won the role after several chemistry reads and a wide-ranging search for a specifically Asian actress.
She marks the first new addition to the cast which, up until this point, has just sported returning faces from the first film including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker and Benicio Del Toro.
Marvel also reportedly wanted Matthew McConaughey to play the villain in the film, but he opted to pass. The film is said to be a story of fathers and will look deeper into the backstories of characters like Gamora and Yondu.
Filming begins early next year ahead of a May 5th 2017 release.
