Chris O’Dowd (“Bridesmaids”), Guillaume Canet (“The Beach”) and Jesse Plemons (“Breaking Bad”) have all joined Stephen Frears’ upcoming untitled Lance Armstrong film which StudioCanal and Working Title Films are teaming to produce.
The story charts the rise of pro-cyclist Armstrong (Ben Foster) through the 1990s and early 2000s, battling cancer and forever changing the face of cycling before he retires a sporting hero worth millions.
O’dowd plays David Walsh, a sports writer and Sunday Times journalist initially charmed and then ostracised by the cycling community for speaking the truth. It takes several years, but ultimately Armstrong is exposed as the doping scandal gets worldwide media attention.
John Hodge (“Trance,” “Trainspotting”) adapted the script from Walsh’s book “Seven Deadly Sins”. Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Tracey Seaward and Kate Solomon will produce.
Production is slated to begin on Friday on location in France in the UK.
