Mike Flanagan, the director behind the recent haunted mirror tale “Oculus,” has committed to helm a film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “Gerald’s Game”.
The story revolves around a lawyer named Gerald and his wife Jessie who have gone for a romantic getaway in a secluded cabin in western Maine. The couple’s sex life has been reinvigorated by his recent trend of handcuffing her to the bed.
When Jessie balks at the idea this time, she defends herself from his forcefulness, in the process accidentally killing him. Now, trapped and alone, she must confront long-buried demons within her own mind and possibly lurking in the shadows of her seemingly empty house.
Flanagan and Jeff Howard wrote the script while Trevor Macy and his Intrepid Pictures banner will produce.
Flanagan and Macy had originally planned “Diver” as their next film, but that has been pushed back. ‘Game’ takes precedence and has begun casting with shooting to begin this Fall.
