Mike Flanagan, the co-writer and director of this year’s supernatural spooker “Oculus,” has become attached to direct a remake of the 1997 teen horror film “I Know What You Did Last Summer” for Sony Pictures.
Following the massive success of “Scream,” that film’s writer Kevin Williamson penned ‘Know’ as a more straightforward slasher film and based it on a 1973 novel by Lois Duncan.
In the story, four teenagers are stalked and murdered one by one by a killer fisherman a year after a seemingly fatal hit and run which they agree to cover-up. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillippe starred in the film which spawned two sequels.
The new version is expected to be shot on a tight budget and will feature mostly unknowns. It’s currently targeting a 2016 release date.
