Following word yesterday that “Selma” director Ava DuVernay is being sought to direct, today comes the news that Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years a Slave,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) is in negotiations to star in the sci-fi thriller “Intelligent Life” at Amblin Entertainment.
The story follows a U.N. worker in a department that was created to represent humankind in the event of alien contact. He falls in love with a mysterious woman (Nyong’o) who turns out to be an alien.
“Jurassic World” duo Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly penned the script with Trevorrow and Frank Marshall producing. Filming aims to begin this Summer.
DuVernay is expected to receive an offer to direct by later today, and is also considering an offer for Disney’s adaptation of “A Wrinkle in Time”. There’s no scheduling conflict between the two projects so she might end up doing both.
