NYFCC & John Waters Reveal 2017 Top Films

The New York Film Critics have handed out their top prize to Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird” which took home Best Picture and actress for Saoirse Ronan tonight during the hours-long debate between members over winners.

The other big winner was “The Florida Project” which scored best director for Sean Baker and supporting actor for Willem Dafoe. Timothee Chalamet nabbed best actor for “Call Me By Your Name,” Tiffany Haddish won best supporting actress for “Girls Trip,” and Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread” scored best screenplay.

Other winners included “Mudbound” for cinematography, “Coco” for animated feature, “Faces Places” for documentary, “BPM” for foreign language film and “Get Out” for first feature.

Also today, legendary filmmaker John Waters has released his annual top ten list of films with Edgar Wright’s “Baby Driver” considered his best single film of the year. The rest of the Top 10 were “I, Olga Hepnarova,” “The Strange Ones,” “Nocturama,” “Wonderstruck,” “Graduation,” “The Wizard of Lies,” “Lady Macbeth,” “Wonder Wheel” and “Tom of Finland”.
