It looks like “Star Trek” isn’t the only sci-fi franchise about to get a non-white female lead in the near future.
Mashable’s Jeff Sneider reports that Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s upcoming Han Solo-centric ‘A Star Wars Story’ spin-off film has narrowed down its female leading role to four candidates – and that “they weren’t white”.
Since that tweet there has been suggestion that a character created in the new Marvel Star Wars comics might be the character they’re talking about – specifically Sana Starros (aka. Sana Solo), a morally questionable skilled pilot who may or not be married to Han Solo.
Whomever is cast would join confirmed star Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo. A younger version of Lando Calrissian is also rumored to be involved with Donald Glover tipped as the favorite for that part.
Production on the film is expected to kick off in January ahead of a May 2018 release.
