Nolan’s “Interstellar” Heads Into Production

Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” has finally begun production, with Warner Bros. Pictures issuing a press release announcing the news.

The story chronicles “the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage”.

Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan penned the screenplay, the first writing collaboration involving just the brothers since 2006’s “The Prestige”.

The full cast list in order includes: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, John Lithgow, Casey Affleck, David Gyasi, Wes Bentley, Mackenzie Foy, Timothee Chalamet, Topher Grace, David Oyelowo, Ellen Burstyn and Michael Caine.

Various crew from “The Dark Knight” trilogy are returning to work with Nolan including composer Hans Zimmer, editor Lee Smith, production designer Nathan Crowley, and visual effects supervisor Paul Franklin.

Mary Zophres, a frequent costume designer for the Coen brothers, is also onboard. Nolan’s usual cinematographer Wally Pfister is off making his own film “Transcendence” and will be replaced by Hoyte van Hoytema (“Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy,” “Let the Right One In”). Emma Thomas (“Inception”) and Lynda Obst (“The Siege”) will produce.

As with the last two “The Dark Knight” films, the movie will be shot with a mixture of 35mm anamorphic and IMAX film photography. How much of a ratio is not stated.

Shooting is presently underway in Alberta, Canada. Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures will release the film in cinemas on November 7th 2014.
