SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “THE WALKING DEAD” S6 FINALE
Last night’s sixth season finale of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” left fans with a shocking cliffhanger. Having been teased all season, Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s villain Negan arrived on screen alongside his iconic baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire called Lucille.
He then had eleven of the main cast of characters kneel before him and, after some teasing, seemingly beat one to death. Who that was though wasn’t shown, we saw the attack through the victim’s eyes. Dialogue said just before the hit rules out Carl and Rick, but there’s still nine others.
The comics of course had a famous victim who remains the most likely to die, but right now even those involved in the show don’t know. Chandler Riggs, who plays Carl, said in a tweet following the finale: “if it makes you feel any better i still don’t know who got killed and it’s been like 6 months since i read the script.”
Talking about the death on “The Talking Dead” afterwards, showrunner Scott M. Gimple says: “When we reveal who was on the receiving end there, that’s going to be the start of another story. The kickback effects from that – what it makes everyone into, how they react, how the world changes for everyone – that’s the next part of the story.”
The seventh season is slated to premiere later this year.
