Videogame publisher Activision-Blizzard has announced plans on Wednesday to discontinue development of future “Guitar Hero” games reports Variety.
The shift in focus puts one of its top-earning franchises on ice. The company cites double digit percentage declines in the musical game genre and considerable licensing fees as the reason behind the decision. Also being axed are the “DJ Hero” and “Band Hero” brands.
Activision says it plans to focus more on its “Call of Duty” franchise along with titles from Blizzard Entertainment and digital content as it moves forward. The latest ‘Duty’ game earned $1 billion in under six weeks.
