Nine Foreign Language Nominees Unveiled

Following screenings of all 93 foreign language submissions, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ foreign language committee has met and tabulated the nine finalists for the Foreign Language Film Oscar. Those making it to the second last round of nominations for this year are:

Sebastian Lelio’s “A Fantastic Woman” from Chile, Faith Akin’s “In the Fade” from Germany, Ildiko Enyedi’s “On Body and Soul” from Hungary, Samuel Maoz’s “Foxtrot” from Israel, Ziad Doueiri’s “The Insult” from Lebanon, Andrey Zvyagintsev’s “Loveless” from Russia, Alain Gomis’ “Felicite” from Senegal, John Trengove’s “The Wound” from South Africa, Ruben Ostlund’s “The Square” from Sweden.

The biggest snub this year was Robert Campillo’s “BPM” from France which won the Grand Prize at Cannes along with numerous critics awards and has Spirit and Golden Globe nominees. Angelina Jolie’s “First They Killed My Father” also missed out.

Nominations for the 90th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 23rd.
