Niki Caro In Talks To Helm “McFarland”

Disney Pictures has entered negotiations with “Whale Rider” director Niki Caro to helm their long-in-development $20 million sports film “McFarland” reports The Film Stage.

Based on a 1997 Los Angeles Times piece, the film follows the true story of California high school track and field coach Jim White who inspired his team to greatness on and off the field.

Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray (“Miracle,” ” “Invincible,” “Secretariat”) are producing the project which will shoot next year.
