“Nightwing” Helmer Joins “Dungeons & Dragons”

Chris McKay (“The LEGO Batman Movie”) is in negotiations to direct the “Dungeons and Dragons” reboot at Paramount Pictures and AllSpark Pictures. A July 23rd 2021 has also been set.

The film version of the tabletop role-playing game follows in the wake of a poorly received 2000 film version made on the cheap and starring the likes of Jeremy Irons, Marlon Wayans and Justin Whalin.

In recent years the property was at the center of a legal battle over its film rights, with a 2015 settlement paving the way for a new film which was set up at Warner Bros. Pictures and is now over at Paramount. Michael Gillio is writing the script.

McKay has also been working on the film adaptation of the “Nightwing” DC Comics at Warner Bros. Pictures, however The Tracking Board indicates the film is ‘years down the line’ because there are so many other DC Films that are slated to come first – as a result “Nightwing” isn’t a priority for the studio at the moment, giving McKay time to tackle this project.
