Night at the Museum Gets A Chinese Remake

Chinese film studio Alibaba Pictures has acquired the rights to remake 20th Century Fox’s “Night at the Museum” franchise for the local market.

The plans, first briefly mentioned the other week during a panel discussion with Fox Filmed Entertainment, have since been confirmed to THR which reveals the project is still in early stages, with casting and a director yet to be secured.

Alibaba Pictures has invested in three Hollywood films from Paramount, but this will be its first remake of a major U.S. studio film. That first film grossed $250 million in North America and $575 million worldwide.
