Nicolas Pesce (“The Eyes Of My Mother”) has been set to both re-write and direct the reboot of “The Grudge” franchise at Ghost House Pictures.
Takashi Shimazu helmed the 2004 remake of the 2002 Japanese horror film “Ju-on: The Grudge” which follows an American nurse (Sarah Michelle Gellar) living and working in Tokyo who is exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse – one that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life.
Two sequels followed in the American series and twelve films overall were made in the original Japanese “Ju-on” franchise. The 2004 film cost $10 million and grossed $187 million worldwide.
Pesce, currently in post-production on his psychological thriller “Piercing” with Mia Wasikowska and Christopher Abbott, will retool a script by “Midnight Meat Train” scribe Jeff Buhler. Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise will produce.
