Nicolas Cage will star in the Mario Van Peebles-directed WW2 movie “USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage” for Hannibal Classics.
Cam Cannon penned the script and Cage will take on the role of Capt. Charles Butler McVay whose ship was torpedoed in the South Pacific in July 1945 after delivering parts for the first atomic bombs.
Nine hundred survived the sinking of the ship, but almost two-thirds of them died due to exposure, dehydration, saltwater poisoning, and shark attacks as they waited for help. McVay was court-martialed then exonerated more than half a century later.
Rionda Del Castro will produce and filming begins June 10th in Mobile, Alabama. The film is currently targeting a Memorial Day 2016 weekend release.
