Just hours before its midnight previews, the Nicolas Cage-led period action thriller “Outcast” was pulled from its Chinese theatrical release last night.
It still remains unclear why the planned wide release today of the official China-Canada-France co-production has suddenly been halted, especially as the key National Day Holiday box-office period is coming up in China.
In fact Yunnan Film Group, the film’s Chinese distributor and co-production partner, informed co-producer Arclight Films that they couldn’t share the reasons for the postponement.
The Nick Powell-directed film, which also stars Hayden Christensen and Liu Yifei, is scheduled to open in Malaysia today and Vietnam and Singapore tomorrow. Distributors in the latter two territories are reportedly considering postponing the release for two weeks.
