Hasbro held their first quarter 2015 earnings call today where they spoke a bit more about the news revealed last month – that Paramount was bringing together a brains trust to develop both multi-part sequels and spin-off films based in the “Transformers” universe. TFW2005 has the key quote from Brian Goldner, President and CEO of Hasbro:
“Our plan right now with the studio and filmmakers, you may have read something about some writers being hired. We have in fact brought in [Akiva Goldsman] to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers – we think there’s any number of stories to be told. It’s a brand that’s been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie to happen in 2017.”
“I Am Legend” writer Akiva Goldsman will lead the group with Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura all serving as part of the development team. Goldsman himself will only provide oversight and not actually write any of the films.
At last report, filmmaker Michael Bay hopes to complete work on his Benghazi drama “13 Hours” before getting to work on the next “Transformers”.
