Appearing on NBC’s “Today” show, “Star Trek” actor Zachary Quinto revealed that filming on a third in the rebooted series is getting ready to begin soon.
Quinto says: “I think it’s on the horizon. Things are rumbling, so I have a feeling that we will be in production sometime in the next six months.”
It’s expected that Roberto Orci, who co-wrote the first two movies with Alex Kurtzman and the third with Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, will step in as director on the next installment. Paramount, however, has yet to officially confirm it.
Should it begin production early next year, the film would likely get a Summer 2016 release – perfect timing considering 2016 will also be the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
Orci himself has confirmed the first draft of the screenplay was completed last month and will be closer in tone to the original 1960s TV series than previously seen.
