  • Moffat On Big Screen "Doctor Who"
    By Garth FranklinMonday, August 25th 2008 6:52pm
image A film version of the recently revived British sci-fi serial "Doctor Who" could take place in the near future says new showrunner Steven Moffat according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"It would be good to see it in the cinema so long as it is great and fantastic. I'm not against it ... so long as it never gets in the way of the TV show. If it got in the way of the show that would be appalling" said Moffat, speaking at a master class on the show at a festival in London.

The news comes the day after a recent UK poll cited the series as the number one small screen property Britons would like to see on film, beating out "Friends," "Red Dwarf," "Heroes," "CSI," "Spooks," "24" and "Lost". Almost ten million viewers watched the season finale last month in the UK.

"Queer as Folk" creator Russell T. Davies has served as show runner on the series since its restart after a sixteen year hiatus in 2005. Acclaimed scribe Moffat takes over the show starting in 2010 and reportedly turned down penning the script of at least one further "Tintin" sequel for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson to concentrate on doing the job right.
