Screen Gems is the first to green light a drama based on the recent Colombian hostage rescue incident says Variety.

Rold from the point of view of the Colombian military rescuers, "Operation Checkmate" will deal with their infiltration of the intelligence network of the revolutionaries to free Ingrid Betancourt and fourteen others.

The final 22 minutes of the film will unfold in real time, depicting the dramatic release as the rescuers tricked the kidnappers into thinking they were a humanitarian group.

Simon Brand ("Paraiso Travel") is in negotiations to direct, while Doug Davison and Roy Lee are attached to produce.
