  • De Niro Wants Two "Shepherd" Sequels
    By Garth FranklinMonday, July 7th 2008 12:05am
image Robert De Niro says that he'd still like to do two sequels to "The Good Shepherd" despite that film's failure at the box-office in 2006.

The actor, director and producer tells Variety that he and Martin Scorsese still hope to produce two more films about the CIA's history and the character of Edward Wilson played by Matt Damon. 'Shepherd' ran from the early days of World War Two in 1939 to the Bay of Pigs incident in 1961.

The second will run from that point through to the fall of the Soviet Union and the Berlin Wall in 1989. It's expected to deal with the CIA's involvement in Vietnam, the Watergate scandal, and US involvements in Afghanistan, Iran and Central America. The third is expected to deal with events from 1990 through til the present.

De Niro is presently visiting central Europe and working with Martin Scorsese on a secret project aiming for release sometime next year.
