Val Kilmer and Xzibit have joined the cast of the Nu Image/Millennium Films remake of the 1992 cult hit "Bad Lieutenant" says the trades.

The original followed the depraved adventures of a corrupt policeman (Harvey Keitel) investigating the rape of a nun.

In the Billy Finkelstein-penned, Werner Herzog-directed remake, Nicolas Cage plays the cop while Kilmer will play his partner.

Xzibit is playing a nemesis named Big Fade, in a re-imagining of the film. Eva Mendes, Shea Wigham, Katie Chonacas and Brad Dourif also star.
