  • Sam Raimi Helms Lehane's "Day"

    image Sony Pictures and "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi are re-teaming for an adaptation of Dennis Lehane's "The Given Day" says Variety.

    Sony has acquired the upcoming novel from the "Mystic River" and "Gone Baby Gone" author, and Raimi will develop to direct.

    The story is set in 1919 Boston, a time of turmoil as soldiers returning home from WWI bring back an epidemic of Spanish influenza.

    The narrative specifically deals with attempts to unionize the police department have set the stage for a historic strike and two cops take center stage.

    Lehane's novel is released late September. Martin Scorsese is presently finishing up work on a film adaptation of Lehane's "Shutter Island".

    Raimi is said to be circling several other projects including a fourth "Spider-Man" and a fifth Jack Ryan adventure.
