Mandate Pictures has picked up Matthew Michael Carnahan's latest untitled spec script says The Hollywood Reporter.

The modern-day crime story tracks the fates of a trio of childhood friends from Chicago's South Side.

Carnahan will make his directing debut on the project. He also penned "Lions for Lambs," "The Kingdom" and the upcoming US film remake of BBC mini-series "State of Play".
