Lasse Hallstrom is set to direct Channing Tatum in "Dear John" for Screen Gems and Relativity Media reports Variety.

An adaptation of the book by author Nicholas Sparks ("The Notebook," "Message in a Bottle"), Tatum stars as a soldier who - while home on leave - falls for a conservative college student.

Shooting begins in September.
