Entertainment Weekly reports that Matthew McConaughey has been offered the role of Thomas Magnum in Universal Pictures' adaptation of classic 80's television series "Magnum P.I."

The character, a former Navy Seal turned reluctant detective, was previously played by Tom Selleck who was quite different (both physically and in performance style) than the "Fool's Gold" star.

Magnum isn't Magnum without the moustache, chest hair and every guy charm - the later two things McConaughey doesn't have and can't really develop.

McConaughey is apparently considering the script from writer/director Rawson Thurber ("Dodgeball") and will decide shortly.
