  • April Fool: Dunes Plans "Exorcist" Remake
    By Garth FranklinTuesday, April 1st 2008 12:45am
image Platinum Dunes is continuing its bid to remake the major horror film masterpieces from 1960's to 80's with Screen Annual reporting that Michael Bay's company is seeking a screen writer for a new adaption of William Peter Blatty's "The Exorcist".

Along with the already announced plans to remake "Friday the 13th," "A Nightmare on Elm Street," "The Birds" and most recently "Rosemary's Baby", the move doesn't really come as a surprise.

One of the names being floated for the director's chair however does - the Strause Brothers ("Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem"). The duo apparently floated the idea to Bay who immediately took to their grittier and more visceral take on the original story.

Bay then apparently pitched the idea to franchise holders Warner Bros. who gave Dunes the greenlight last week. The Strause's are set to produce the film and are expected to direct, but nothing has been signed as yet. Production isn't slated to begin until next year, with casting to begin later in the year.

Dakota Fanning already did that rape movie, AnnaSophia Robb was in "The Reaping" which was the cinematic equivalent of forced sodomy with a red hot poker, my guess is that really leaves only "Little Miss Sunshine" herself Abigail Breslin to be the one covered in pea soup.
