  • Reeves Talks "Earth Stood Still" Message
    By Garth FranklinMonday, March 24th 2008 7:35am
image MTV News recently talked with Keanu Reeves about his work in 20th Century Fox's top secret, big budget remake of the sci-fi classic "The Day the Earth Stood Still."

Whilst the original 1951 film dealt with the then emerging danger of the Cold War and nuclear annihilation, it seems the new one will be dealing with an equally dangerous and more contemporary threat - global warming.

Reeves said "The version I was just working on, instead of being man against man, it's more about man against nature. My Klaatu says that if the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the earth survives. I'm a friend to the earth. ...what we are doing and who we are as a species. We're trying to reach beyond the idea of [just] environmentalism."

He also confirms they "have another version of the robot", the iconic Gort who's blank visage became a signature part of the film's memory.
