  • The Final HD-DVD Releases Set
    By Garth FranklinFriday, February 29th 2008 12:55am
image Paramount has confirmed that the March 4th release of "Into the Wild" and "Things We Lost in the Fire" will be the studio's last on the format.

HD-DVD versions of "Sweeney Todd," "There Will Be Blood," "The Jack Ryan Collection" and "The Kite Runner" which were previously announced have all been cancelled.

DreamWorks Animation's "Bee Movie" has also cancelled its HD-DVD release due on March 11th. Warner Bros. remains on target to finish its support for the format with "Twister" on May 27th.

This means that despite their switch to Blu-ray, Universal Pictures remains the sole studio who've yet to announce when they will terminate their HD-DVD releases. At present however, they have only one title scheduled - "Atonement" on March 18th - which looks likely to be their last.

Paramount and Dreamworks reluctance to announce Blu-ray versions of existing HD-DVD titles apparently stems from unresolved payments between the studios and Toshiba. Once that's worked out, a raft of announcements is expected.
