It's been seven years since his last film "Ghosts of Mars", but legendary genre director John Carpenter is returning to feature filmmaking.

According to Shock Til You Drop, casting is underway for his new project "L.A. Gothic" with shooting slated to begin in March.

Writers Jim Agnew and Sean Keller signed a pre-strike deal to develop the anthology film which has five interwoven stories centering on a vengeful ex-priest's efforts to protect his teenage daughter from the supernatural evils of L.A.'s dark side.

Agnew and Keller made news earlier this week for teaming with another horror legend - Italian filmmaker Dario Argento.
