Anne Fletcher ("27 Dresses," "Step Up") has signed on to direct Touchstone Pictures' romantic comedy "The Proposal" says The Hollywood Reporter.

The script, written by Peter Chiarelli, follows a publishing executive (Sandra Bullock) who forces her assistant (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her so she can avoid deportation to Canada.

Fletcher, a choreographer on such films as "Bring it On" and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin", hopes to use those skills for the film's physical comedy elements. The deal with Fletcher means the project is aiming for a spring start date.
