East of Doheny and Gotham Group have optioned Jim Benton's best-selling "Franny K. Stein" kids book series and plan to turn it into an animated feature film franchise says The Hollywood Reporter.

"Franny K. Stein, Mad Scientist," which follows the exploits of the girl scientist and includes tongue-in-cheek references to classic monster and sci-fi movies, will be the first adaptation in the works.

There is no screenwriter or director attached yet. The "Franny K. Stein" series includes six books, with a seventh scheduled to be published next year.
