  • "Women" Set For An August Start
    By Garth FranklinThursday May 31st 2007 7:35am
image I remember talk of a remake of the 1939 classic "The Women" was one of the first items I reported on when Dark Horizons started. Now, just over a decade later, it's finally happening reports Variety.

Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing and Candice Bergen have either signed or are near committing to star in Picturehouse's contemporized version of the classic due for release next year.

Diane English directs the sub-$20 million drama which follows a group of female friends when the one they envied most discovers her husband's cheating on her. English began workon the script back in the mid-90's when James L. Brooks was attached to direct and Julia Roberts tipped to star.

English became attached to direct in 2001, but still several versions of the film came and went due to various difficulties. Now, its finally all set and an August 6th start of shooting date locked.

The original George Cukor-directed film starred the likes of Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford and Rosalind Russell.
