  • Takes "Months" To Find A Cannes Winner

    image The Cannes Film Festival is over for another year, and this year's Palme d'Or went to Romanian director Cristian Mungiu's abortion drama "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days."

    Second place Grand Prix went to Japanese underdog "Mogari No Mori" (The Mourning Forest), whilst Cristian Nemescu's "California Dreamin'" won Un Certain Regard.

    Julian Schnabel scored best director for "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly," and Turkey's Fatih Akin won best screenplay for "The Edge of Heaven."

    Jeon Do-yeon's work in Lee Chang-dong's "Secret Sunshine" took best actress, whilst Konstantin Lavronenko won best actor for Russia's "The Banishment"

    Comic adaptation "Persepolis" and forbidden love story "Stellet Licht" tied for the jury prize. Gus Van Sant's skater drama "Paranoid Park" won the 60th Anniversary Prize.

    Israeli film "Meduzot" won the Camera d'Or (essentially the 'best first film' award) with Ian Curtis biopic "Control" landing a special mention and the Directors' Fortnight award.
