  • Rob Marshall Turns "Nine" Today
    By Garth FranklinFriday April 13th 2007 12:27am
image Rob Marshall ("Chicago," "Memoirs of a Geisha") will direct a feature film version of the 1982 Broadway musical "Nine" for the Weinstein Company.

The film and play are adapted from Federico Fellini's 1963 classic autobiographical feature "8 1/2," focusing on a film director stuck in neutral as he tries to make a movie while haunted by the demands of all the women in his life, including a wife, mistress and even his deceased mother.

Raul Julia starred in the original version, whilst Antonio Banderas headlines a 2002 revival. Marshall and John DeLuca will produce and choreograph the adaptation of the show, which won five Tonys including best musical.

The script will be adjusted to suit the strengths of the leading actors says Marshall, whilst a late 2008 release looks to be planned.

Original "Nine" book writer Arthur Kopit and composer Maury Yeston will serve as co-executive producers.
