  • Gyllenhaal Has A Fear of Flying"
    By Garth FranklinThursday April 12th 2007 7:56am
image"Fear of Flying," Erica Jong's salacious 1973 novel which coined the term 'the zipless f*ck', is FINALLY coming to the big screen.

FOX News reports that "Murphy Brown" creator Diane English will write and direct, and apparently wants Maggie Gyllenhaal to play the lead character Isadora Wing.

'Flying' has been in the works for decades with Goldie Hawn set to star and Hal Ashby tipped to direct at one point, but it never got off the ground.

The book tells of an unpublished poet who, on a trip to Vienna with her second husband, decides to indulge her sexual fantasies with another man.

Having sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, the book is seen an important milestone in the development of feminism and resonated with many women who felt stuck in unfulfilled marriages.

As previously reported, English is also readying a remake of "The Women" for a July start of shooting with Meg Ryan, Sigourney Weaver and Candice Bergen's involved. Penelope Cruz and Lisa Kudrow are also being considered for roles.
