  • School Massacre Becomes British Film
    By Garth FranklinFriday March 23rd 2007 1:21am
imageTwo novels based on writer Lionel Shriver's books are in the works including "We Need To Talk About Kevin" reports Teletext.

The BBC will make a film based on that 2003 prize-winning book about a couple whose son has committed a high school massacre.

Shriver's book deliberately avoids arguments about media violence and gun control to focus on the relative importance of innate characteristics and personal experiences in determining character and behaviour.

Her next book "The Post-Birthday World" has been handed to "Notes On A Scandal" writer Patrick Marber to write a screen version.

'World' is a "Sliding Doors" style dual narrative exploring the romantic options of a woman who must chose between staying with her reliable boyfriend or pursuing a volatile public figure she's only known in passing.
