In the wake of last year's Sundance hit "Little Miss Sunshine" scoring big with Oscar nominations on Tuesday morning, buyers went crazy all day to land what they think could be next year's big awards contenders.

The Weinstein Co. and Fox Searchlight have paid around $5 million to buy immigrant drama "La Misma luna". Searchlight will likely handle domestic distribution while Weinstein would oversee foreign.

The Weinsteins also partnered with First Look Studios for worldwide rights to the Justin Theroux-directed romantic comedy "Dedication". The Mandy Moore-Billy Crudup led film sold for $4 million.

Magnolia Pictures has paid just over $2 million for North American, U.K. and Australian rights to the horror film "The Signal". The story centers on a mysterious transmission which invades every cell phone, radio and TV in the city, turning its inhabitants into killers.

Fortissimo Films has acquired all international rights besides China to "Nanking," Bill Guttentag and Dan Sturman's doco account of the rape of Nanking, which also stars Woody Harrelson and Mariel Hemingway.

Summit Entertainment has acquired Samson Films' musical love story "Once," directed and written by John Carney and featuring Glen Hansard and his Irish band the Frames.

After Dark Films announced it had bought "Weapons," a provocative feature about guns in schools directed by Adam Bhala Lough, for just over a million.
